MGM Taking Business from Regional Neighbors

New statistics from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission show that the MGM National Harbor resort is causing its neighboring Baltimore-area casinos to struggle.

New statistics show the two Baltimore-area casinos, Horseshoe Baltimore and Maryland Live!, continue to struggle to compete with the new MGM National Harbor casino on the shores of the Potomac across from Washington, D.C.

May revenues at the Horseshoe property were down 18.1 percent compared to May 2016, a difference of $5.2 million. May revenues for Maryland Live!, the Cordish Company property at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, were down 22.3 percent, or $13.2 million, from the previous year, according to figures released last week by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission.

MGM National Harbor, which opened in December, recorded $50.6 million in gaming revenues for May—more than double the $23.6 million won by Horseshoe.
