Alejandro Eugenio Arguello, 35, of Plantation, Florida recently was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery after he followed a high stakes poker player home from the Casino at Dania Beach, pulled a gun and robbed him of tens of thousands of dollars in poker chips and personal checks, police said.
According to the arrest report, surveillance footage showed the victim playing high stakes poker at the Dania Beach casino as a suspect watched him. When the victim left the casino in his Land Rover, the suspect ran to a Ford Escape. The victim drove to his apartment building in Miami, followed by the Escape. When the victim entered an elevator, a suspect followed him, pulled out a gun, physically attacked him and demanded the victim’s bag, the report said. The bag contained about $50,000 in poker chips and five checks written to the victim which totaled $78,000.
The suspect and a companion left the scene in the Escape, which detectives learned had been rented by Arguello. Cell phone data showed he was at the casino and at the victim’s apartment building the night of the robbery, the report said.
Arguello turned himself in to Miami-Dade Police and is being held in jail. In addition to the armed robbery charge, he faces charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and accessory after the fact.
