Many of Michigan’s businesses will be closed through December 20 to ascertain how Thanksgiving travel impacted the spread of coronavirus. The executive order, issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, prohibits eating inside restaurants and going to casinos, bowling alleys and theaters, among other entertainment venues, according to the Associated Press.

“Hope is on the horizon, but we need an additional 12 days to determine the full impact of the holiday on our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus,” Whitmer said in a statement. ”This is all about protecting our families and front-line workers until we eradicate this virus once and for all.”

The administration also indicated three factors will determine if the businesses can reopen after December 20: the percentage of hospital beds with Covid-19 patients; the number of cases; and the positivity rate. When it comes to entertainment, patrons and employee are casinos and other entertainment businesses will be required wear masks.
