Michigan Legislators Still Considering Online Gaming

Online casino gaming legislation still is under review in the Michigan legislature. State Senator Mike Kowall (l.) said there is “plenty of time” for lawmakers to approve a bill before the end of the year. If the measure passes, Michigan would become the first state to legalize online gaming since 2013.

Michigan lawmakers recently met to review internet casino games legislation. They plan to finalize a plan in November or December. State Senator Mike Kowall said there is “plenty of time” for online casino games to be approved before the end of the year. The Senate Regulatory Reform Committee approved the legislation in June.

Supporters said legalizing online casinos could provide a boost to the state’s gaming industry, adding to the $1.4 billion generated annually by Detroit’s three casinos and the 23 tribal casinos’ annual $1.5 billion.

Although Michigan legislators have considered online casino games proposals the last three year, they started an online lottery first, in 2014.

Michigan would be the first state to legalize online gaming since 2013 if the legislation passes.
