Treasure Island Resort & Casino, owned by the Prairie Island Indian Community in Welch, Minnesota, recently was named Property of the Year by the Minnesota Lodging Association. The award recognizes the “impact on the lodging industry each has made, be it as a new property, by making a significant turnaround as an existing property or by being a model of stability.”
Treasure Island opened as a small bingo hall on Prairie Island. Over the years, the tribe has added more gaming space, a restaurant and Tradewinds Buffet, as well as a 250-room luxury hotel, 197-slip marina, RV park and new cruise ship.
Most recently, Treasure Island added a new 3,000-seat Island Event and Convention Center, a 24-lane Brunswick bowling center and arcade and a second hotel tower with 230 non-smoking rooms, as well as additional hotel suites and a steakhouse, Tado, which will open next month.
Treasure Island revenue helps provide infrastructure for the reservation and support tribal members’ future. The Prairie Island tribe also supports many nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
For the 13th consecutive year, Midwest Gaming & Travel magazine recognized Treasure Island as Minnesota’s Favorite Casino in its 2014 Reader’s Choice survey.
