Running Aces Casino and Racetrack, near Columbus, Minnesota, has announced plans to add a four-story, 74-room hotel adjacent to the existing casino.
Running Aces President and CEO Taro Ito told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, “We’re very confident about the project. We are very, very excited because we feel that this is going to really position Running Aces as a unique property.”
He added, “Everybody is always thinking fun is down south,” Ito said, referring to a part of the state that includes Treasure Island Resort and Casino, Mystic Lake, and racetrack Canterbury Park. “This is just the beginning of something big, and it’s really going to move us to the next level in terms of awareness,” he told the Tribune
The hotel will be managed by GrandStay Hospitality, who’s brand president, Jon Kennedy, commented, “The GrandStay Hotel & Suites will complement the many entertainment choices offered to guests at the casino, racetrack, restaurants, trout pond and more.”
The timeline for the project, including when construction will begin, has not been announced.
Running Aces opened in 2008, lost $4 million during its first season, was later purchased by Black Diamond Commercial Finance, which has overseen an uptick of business. This year has been the racetrack’s most successful year.
According to Ito, customers have said that they would like to have a hotel where they could stay near the racino.
