Mirage Closes Everything Mid-Week

Another indication of how slow business is in Las Vegas: The Mirage, one of the last of the MGM Resorts casinos to reopen in late August, will close midweek like many other Las Vegas casinos.

Mirage Closes Everything Mid-Week

Add the Mirage to the list of Las Vegas Strip properties that are closed midweek. The list has gotten longer, with the addition of the Rio, which just opened last week. The Mirage joins Park MGM and Mandalay Bay as MGM properties that are closed midweek. Like Park MGM, the entire property is closed until Thursday at noon, including both the hotel and the casino. The property will close at noon on Monday.

“With weekday business levels remaining low due to COVID-19 and the restrictions on group gatherings, we have made the decision to temporarily close The Mirage. This closure will include the casino, hotel and restaurants, in addition to all other amenities,” the company said in a statement. “While we do not currently expect the mid-week closure to remain in effect past February, we will continue evaluating how long The Mirage’s midweek hotel closure will remain in effect.”

Without trade shows or conferences, business travel to Las Vegas is almost non-existent, which drives the mid-week market. Weekends are still not full, but are better as air travel to Las Vegas ramps up and drive-in traffic from California, which continues to be locked down completely, increases.

Other hotels on the Strip closed during the week include Planet Hollywood and Encore.
