Mississippi Coastal Casinos Set New Record

Mississippi's 12 coastal casinos including Harrah’s Gulf Coast (l.) set a record in 2019 with gross gaming revenue of $1.3 billion, up $74 million over 2018. Mississippi Coastal Casinos Set New Record

The Mississippi Department of Revenue recently announced 2019 was a record-setting year for the 12 Gulf Coast casinos, posting gross gaming revenue of $1,314,526,503—an increase of nearly $74 million over 2018 and the second time since 2007 the total topped $1.3 billion.

The 2019 Mississippi state total was $2.201 billion, an increase of more than $74 million over the 2018 total of $2.127 billion.

In 2019, November was the lowest grossing month for coastal casinos at $94.48 million, and March was the highest at $123.82 million.

The northern gaming region posted the second highest gross revenue at $582.54 million, although that was a $10 million decrease from 2018 when it produced $592.74 million.

The central gaming region’s revenue rose $11 million in 2019 to $304.17 million compared to $293.23 million in 2018.

Sportsbooks in Mississippi’s three regions produced total taxable revenue of $3.47 million in December, down from $3.78 million in combined sports betting revenue in November. Total handle in November was $56.369, which fell to $49.076 million in December. Observers said the end of the SEC football regular season accounted for much of the decline.
