The Mississippi Gaming Commission recently granted site approval for South Beach Casino & Resort LLC in Clermont Harbor, Hancock County. The approval is good for three years, meaning developers have until 2026 to build the casino resort, which will be the 13th on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the third in two miles of beachfront.

Project Manager Kirk D. Ladner said the board’s approval of the 4-acre site will help South Beach line up investors. Ladner said he has been in talks with three possible casino operators.

The casino resort will offer 40,000 square feet of gaming with 1,100 slot machines, 25 table games and six poker tables, Ladner said.

The Gaming Commission requires all new coastal casinos to have 300 hotel rooms, at least 40,000 square feet of casino space, a fine-dining restaurant and an amenity that will grow the local casino market.
