February was not kind to Mississippi. Sports betting revenue dropped 25 percent over the same month last year, and more than 54 percent compared to January, according to the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
Revenue decreased from $2.8 million in February 2019, to $2.1 million this past month. The month over month decline amounted to $4.6 million. Sports wagering from the coastal casinos served as the primary source of revenue at $955,000, a 31.5 percent fall year over year.
Central casinos experienced a 21.6 percent decline in income to $619,000 despite player wagers rising 7.5 percent to $4.3 million.
The month-over-month decline owes much to the end of the NFL season; football wagers accounted for almost 68 percent of the total betting activity at Mississippi casinos.
