Mississippi more than doubled its sports betting revenue in January, based on figures released by the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Revenue of $4.6 million was 119 percent more than the same month in 2020. Handle also rose 38.6 percent.
Players bet $47.8 million on sports during February. While higher than the $37.6 million spent in the same month in 2020, the figure declined 29.4 percent compared to January, according to iGaming Business.
Coastal casinos raked in the most money, with revenue at $2.7 million and a handle of $34.7 million at retail sportsbooks. Basketball ranked tops with bettors wagering $21.5 million, resulting in $1.3 million in revenue. Thanks to the Super Bowl, February’s handle of $6 million produced revenue of more than $250,000.
Sports wagering revenue from central casinos exceeded $1.2 million, with a handle of $7.8 million, while northern casinos took in $683,125 in revenue after players wagered $5.4 million in February.
Year to date, sports betting revenue in Mississippi was $13.7 million, with players betting $115.5 million. All wagers took place in retail sportsbooks after a bill to allow mobile sports betting failed in February.
