In Missouri, Century Casinos recently broke ground on its new $51.9 million land-based casino in Caruthersville, to be completed in late 2024, officials said. Located in the Missouri Bootheel in the southeastern corner of the state, the Century Casino Caruthersville, formerly Aztar Caruthersville, is expected to attract visitors from Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee.
The new facility will offer 650 to 790 slots plus table games, as well as a 38-room boutique hotel, deli and bar. An amendment to the company’s master lease with its landlord, Vici Properties, made the transition possible. Century’s annual rent in Caruthersville will increase by $4.2 million when the move is completed.
Century, which also owns Century Casino Cape Girardeau in Missouri, will move the casino area of the Caruthersville property from an adjoining riverboat and barge into a temporary land-based venue by the end of the year, officials said. The riverboat ceased to be accessible due to low water levels in October.
Opened in 1994, Century Casino Caruthersville is the last riverboat casino operating on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River. Plans for the new facility include a flood wall to protect it from potential seasonal flooding.
