Inspire Entertainment Resort, a Mohegan Gaming property in Incheon, South Korea, has been approved for a gaming license.

The resort, which opened on November 30, 2023, was required to earn a five-star hotel rating from the Korea Tourism Association’s five-star before it could open its casino. The country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism confirmed its decision in a January 24 statement.

A spokesperson at Inspire told GGRAsia that the casino could open before  the Lunar New Year celebration, which starts on February 10 and continues through February 24.

South Korea currently has 16 foreigner-only casinos in addition to one that is open to locals, Kangwon Land. Inspire’s gaming license was the first to be issued since 2005. Since then, new venues have opened including Paradise City at Incheon and Jeju Dream Tower. Those properties were able to use gaming licenses transferred from other venues.

Inspire is located near Incheon International Airport. It includes 1,275 hotel rooms, 11 restaurants and a 15,000-seat performance arena. Its hotel, which officially won its five-star rating on January 3, offers a Michael Jordan’s Steak House, reportedly the first outside the U.S.
