Pollstar Magazine, Billboard Magazine and Venues Tuesday listed the Mohegan Sun Arena among the top three venues in the nation in their end of year editions. The arena attracted more than 700,000 people last year, the largest number for any casino arena in the world. It is also ranked 39th as a concert venue worldwide and 17th nationally for any size venue.
That puts the arena in the same rarified air as the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and Madison Square Garden in New York City, all which can hold more than 15,000 concert goers.
Tom Cantone, Sr. vice president of sports & entertainment at Mohegan Sun hailed the announcement: “When you consider most of the other major arenas are much larger than us, and that we ranked the highest of all casino venues, that is quite an achievement and a testament to the best team in the world, who run a world-class entertainment program.”
Some of the artists who will be appearing at the arena early this year include Miranda Lambert, Sting, Bon Jovi, Chris Rock, Neil Diamond and New Kids on the Block. Most of the concerts currently on sale are 80 percent sold out.
