Mohegan Sun Pocono Could Lay Off 240

The Mohegan Sun Pocono Casino in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, has informed 240 employees furloughed due to state-ordered shutdowns of casinos due to the Covid-19 pandemic that they could be laid off permanently next month.

Mohegan Sun furloughed all 1,100 employees when Governor Tom Wolf ordered casinos to shut down in March, recalling around 770 when the casino reopened in June. According to a report by FOX56 WOLF-TV, Mohegan Sun President and GM Anthony Carlucci sent a notification to 240 of those employees last week that they may be permanently laid off by September 30.

“We really wanted to avoid this situation,” Carlucci told FOX56. “Our Mohegan Sun Pocono family is and has always been a close-knit unit and certainly the most vital aspect of our success.”
