Mohegan Sun Pocono trims seven management positions

The Mohegan Tribe has abolished seven management positions in its Pennsylvania property, Mohegan Sun Pocono. The casino has seen its gross revenues decline 5 percent over last year.

The Mohegan Sun Pocono in Plains Township, Pennsylvania announced last week that the casino has cut seven management positions. The former director and above employees were offered severance packages. The employees were not identified, nor were their exact positions identified.

Cody Chapman, a spokesman for the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, said the cuts were part of a reorganization of the company. “The reorganization is a strategic business decision, includes the elimination of some positions, and will allow the casino to operate more efficiently,” he said. “It is also a reflection of Mohegan Sun Pocono preparing for and responding to external factors such as new gaming options currently being explored in multiple states and competitors’ aggressive promotional programs such as free slot play offers.”

The Pennsylvania-based casino’s gross revenue has declined 5 percent over last year, according to a report released in April by the state gaming control board. However, revenue is all 12 of the state’s casinos declined 1.58 percent over last year. However, the Mohegan Sun’s was the second biggest loser of the 12, with only Presque Isle Downs Casino in Erie showing bigger losses at 6.05 percent.
