Montana Casino Could Benefit from Proposal

A Montana state senator has introduced a bill designed to attract more tourists to the state’s Indian tribes. The bill, by Senator Lee Whitford, would also benefit the casinos that the tribes operate.

The casino and hotel operated by the Blackfeet Indian Reservation could benefit from a proposal by Montana legislators to increase traffic to the state’s reservations and other cultural centers.

Although there is plenty of tourism in the state, which has a rich historical heritage, as well as breathtaking scenery at its Glacier and Yellowstone national parks, state Senator Lee Whitford has introduced a bill that would lure some of those tourists to the reservations.

Montana’s tourism industry brings in 12.3 million visitors a year and generates more than $4 billion a year, while creating 55,000 jobs. Not much of that goes to the tribes.
