Montana City Seeks Annexation to Allow Casino

The city of Polson, Montana is looking at annexing about 80 acres for the proposed S&K Casino, which would be built by the Flathead Reservation. Recently the Polson City Planning Commission tabled that request. The land in question is adjacent to US 93 and next to the Polson Airport.

S&K Gaming CEO Bryon Miller said that legitimate concerns had been raised during a recent public meeting on the project, such as traffic concerns. He was less concerned with worries about drug use and crime and calls them speculative.

The tribe proposes a casino with 350 slot machines. The project could include a commercial development, hotel, events center, RV park, housing and food service.

Miller said he hopes the development of the land will bring the Flathead Nation, Lake County, City of Polson, Montana Highway Department together to renovate the stretch of highway that would serve the casino to handle traffic flows better.

Miller said, “It is far more powerful for a collective of governments to get something like this done than for one government to do it on its own.”

Such a project might qualify for some of the $1.9 billion that the state will be receiving from the federal government as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed earlier this year.
