Representatives in the Montana House last week voted 90-10 on the first pass of a bill that would authorize sports betting in the state under the authority of the Montana Lottery.
If the bill survives and final vote it will go to the Senate. If the bill becomes law the Lottery would issue license to operate sports betting, which could be offered in facilities, via terminals and on the internet.
Any revenue would be folded into profits the Lottery already collects that goes mainly for education scholarships.
A similar bill but with the difference that the program would be regulated by the Department of Justice is being heard by the Senate Finance and Claims Committee.
