More Casino Sites Possible in Mississippi

Two new casino sites will be considered by the state gaming commission next week, on in Biloxi, another in Diamondhead, close to the Louisiana border.

In Mississippi, the state gaming commission will hear public comments regarding two potential casino sites in Biloxi and Diamondhead. RW Development, owned by Ray Wooldridge, wants to build a casino at U.S. 90 and Veterans.

RW has built several businesses in the area, including South Beach Biloxi Hotel, Big Play Entertainment Center and restaurants he leases to Wentzel’s Seafood and SlapYa Momma’s, since the site was denied for casino development in 2008. The gaming commission determined the developer did not control of the land to the water’s edge, although attorneys for the project argued that the measurement should be control to the mean high water line, according to the legislation.

Harrison County Supervisor Beverly Martin said unlike some casino developers who come to town without enough funding to build, Wooldridge has invested his money in South Mississippi. “I do support his efforts,” she said.
