Contractor must pick up the tab

Aussie gaming company SkyCity Entertainment Group has informed shareholders that its Auckland International Convention Centre may not open as planned in December 2019 due to problems with the contractor, Fletcher Construction. The project is already six months behind schedule with cost overruns accumulating.

SkyCity Managing Director Graeme Stephens said any extra costs will be Fletcher’s responsibility and suggested that SkyCity might take legal action to recover damages caused by the delays. According to Asia Gaming Brief, he also confirmed that the company’s Darwin casino is still for sale.
