More Digging Beneath the Vegas Strip

The Clark County Board of Commissioners has approved licensing and other key agreements to clear the way for an underground transit system connecting the Las Vegas Convention Center with Resorts World Las Vegas.

The Boring Co., a division of Tesla, plans to run the loop from the Convention Center’s recently completed West Hall to the Strip casino hotel, which is slated to open in the third quarter.

The line is similar to one Boring plans to construct between the Convention Center and Wynn Resorts’ Encore, which is located almost directly across the Strip from Resorts World.

The lines are separate from a $55 million Convention Center Loop, also under construction by Boring, which will shuttle convention attendees around the various exhibit halls.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority paid for construction of the Convention Center Loop. Boring is paying the costs for the tunnels and stations to the two resorts, although both of are expected to contribute unspecified sums.

Plans are also in place for a Vegas Loop connecting the Strip and Downtown Las Vegas with stops planned for the new Allegiant Stadium and possibly McCarran International Airport.

All the systems feature Tesla model vehicles running autonomously in tunnels in a point-to-point system, so passengers don’t have to wait to stop at each individual location on the way to their destinations.
