Celebration Jamaica Development wanted to break ground on its proposed Montego Bay casino in May, but now seeks more time.
The developer recently submitted its application to the Jamaica Ministry of Finance and Public Service and asking it to extend the provisional order allowing the casino project.
Celebration Jamaica is trying to secure a site for its proposed casino and is working with Urban Development Corporation to secure a parcel on Montego Bay.
The project would include a hotel and casino, but the delay in obtaining a site has endangered the entire project.
The Finance Ministry earlier said Celebration Jamaica violated the provisional order, but with the extension application filed, the Ministry might amend the order to better facilitate the project.
Celebration Jamaica CEO Markus Deutsch recently told media construction likely will start in early 2017 if a location is found soon and all permits are approved.
A second casino project in Jamaica, by Harmony Cove, also is delayed an in violation of a provisional order due to problems obtaining financing.
A filing with the Ministry of Finance and Public Service indicates that casino development likely won’t start for nearly a year.
