Most Jeju Casinos Closed

The Gongzi Jeju Casino in Jeju, South Korea is the sixth casino to close in the past year. It leaves only two of eight casinos still operational on the island.

According to Inside Asian Gaming, in addition to Gongzi Jeju, the list of shuttered casinos also includes the MegaLuck, the Royal Palace, the Yalanwan and Bloomberry Resorts’ Jeju Sun. All of those suspended operations last year due to the impact of the Covid-19. Lotte Tour Development’s LT Casino closed earlier this month in order to relocate to Jeju Dream Tower. That casino is scheduled to open in May.

Only Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World and Paradise Co’s Paradise Casino Jeju Grand are still open for business.

Casino sales on Jeju fell by almost 65 percent year-on-year to just KRW69.30 billion (US$61.5 million) in 2020, far below the island’s 2017 record of KRW432.73 billion (US$384 million).
