Tabcorp has held the Keno retail-only license in Victoria for ten years since 2012. As of April 15, Tabcorp has to share the keno with Lottoland. Both companies can provide retail outlets but also online for the first time.
Having two companies creates more competition and hopefully innovation. Each will be able to conduct keno in eligible hotels, clubs, wagering outlets and electronically throughout Victoria, according to Inside Asian Gaming.
“The industry has changed significantly since 2012, with new technologies and new online market entrants, so we have updated the keno license to allow for a more modern approach,” said Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Melissa Horne.
Under the changes, Horne can issue harm minimization directions to both Victorian and interstate keno game providers.
The directions will focus on incentives, direct marketing, account closure, deposit limits, activity statements, messaging and maximum draw frequency, the government said.
