Muscogee (Creek) Nation Elects Hicks

Louis Hicks has been elected second chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, defeating former Principal Chief A. D. Ellis in a special election. Hicks received 2,010 votes and Ellis received 1,070. Principal Chief George Tiger said, “The citizens have spoken and indicated support for the continued progressive direction of this administration."

In a special election, Louis Hicks recently beat former Principal Chief A. D. Ellis to become second chief of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in a 2,010 to 1,070 vote. Hicks received 65 percent of the vote and won the majority in all 18 voting precincts plus absentee ballots. The special election was held to fulfill the remainder of the second chief’s term, which expires in November. Hicks, 64, said he seeks to “diligently listen and act upon the concerns” of tribal citizens.

More Muscogee (Creek) citizens cast votes in this election compared to the December 13 primary election. Principal Chief George Tiger said, “The citizens have spoken and indicated support for the continued progressive direction of this administration. While the overall percentages are somewhat less than desired, I am happy that the general election drew the attention of additional voters, more so than the primary election. We hope that trend continues.”

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation recently announced it will develop a $22 million entertainment venue at the RiverWalk Crossing in Jenks, Oklahoma near Tulsa. The new venue, expected to open in 2017, will offer high-tech golf and family oriented games, restaurants, a sports bar and meeting space.
