The Naskila Gaming arm of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has announced plans to open a new land-based casino in the state.
The property will be located on land in Leggett that is owned by the tribe, the Polk County Enterprise said. Earlier reports said the casino would be built on the tribe’s reservation.
Exact details of the new venue have not been confirmed. However, in April 2024, the tribe set out plans for a new casino resort in Texas.
Existing plans included a casino floor, hotel, dining and entertainment options and a range of other attractions. Once open, the venue expects to create 1,000 jobs in Leggett.
Second Texas Property for Naskila Gaming
Cecilia Flores, chairwoman of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribal Council, announced the project to the Polk County Commissioners Court. She said it will present more opportunities to local residents.
“We have received confirmation from the National Indian Gaming Commission,” Flores said. “We had made a petition to them about gaming on tribal properties outside the reservation in eastern Polk County. The Leggett land is eligible for gaming, so we plan to develop our Naskila Casino Resort there.
“I just wanted to give Polk County [a] heads up and inform you of our recent development. We’re very excited about it. It means a whole lot of new jobs, a lot of new opportunities for taxes, income, roads, the whole thing.”
Naskila Gaming already owns and operates the Naskila Casino in Texas. The venue opened in 2016 and currently houses over 900 gaming machines, two cafes and a gift shop.
