NCAI Elects Fawn Sharp President

The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) has elected Fawn Sharp as its new president. She won with 61.97 percent of the vote in a field of four candidates.

Fawn Sharp, president of the Quinault Indian Nation in Taholah, Washington, has been elected president of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), winning 61.97 percent of the vote in a field of four candidates.

The vote was held at NCAI’s annual convention. Sharp told delegates, “Together we are strong, together we are mighty, and together we are unstoppable.”

In the past, Sharp been vice president of NCAI; managing attorney and lead counsel for the Quinault Indian Nation, administrative law judge for the Washington state Department of Revenue—Tax Appeals Division and Quinault Tribal Court Associate Judge.

She is also a human rights attorney and a former judge and has degrees from Oxford University, the University of Washington, and Gonzaga University.
