The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has launched its annual holiday campaign to discourage minors from playing the lottery. The campaign emphasizes that studies have shown that early childhood gambling experiences can lead to gambling abuse as an adult.

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has launched its annual campaign to discourage children from being involved in the purchasing of lottery tickets.

The campaign emphasizes that research shows that early childhood gambling experiences can lead to problem gambling in adulthood.

The NCPG joined forces in 2002 with the International Center for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University to launch the Responsible Gambling Holiday Lottery Campaign. It raises awareness of the risk of underage lottery play during the holidays.

NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte declared, “The Responsible Gambling Holiday Lottery Campaign educates communities that lottery tickets, the form of gambling with the broadest participation, are not child’s play.”
