Nebraska Governor Reiterates Casino Opposition

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts (l.) re-emphasized his opposition to legalizing casino gambling during his monthly call-in radio show on News Talk WJAG. Ricketts said he doubted a caller's statement that property taxes in Iowa are lower than Nebraska because of casino revenue, and said Nebraskans can gamble on the lottery, keno and horseracing.

During his monthly call-in radio show on News Talk WJAG, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts recently repeated he strongly opposes legalizing casino gambling in the state.

A caller told the governor property taxes are lower in Iowa than in Nebraska because of casino revenue. In response, Ricketts said he doubted that statement. Also, he said Nebraska allows gambling including a lottery, keno and horseracing.

Ricketts also said an Iowa study found for every dollar of casino revenue, $3 are spent on social services including child and spousal abuse and other social programs.

The governor’s next call-in show on WJAG will be on Monday, April 17.
