Nebraska Planners Oppose New Casino Racetrack

Supporters of a new casino racetrack in Hastings, Nebraska took a hit when the planning commission voted 4-3 against such a proposal. But it’s not a death knell. It’s just a zoning recommendation for city council to consider.

Lisa Parnell-Rowe, director of development services in Hastings, says the planned area for the casino is currently zoned as residential, according to Nebraska Public Radio. A lot of opponents approve of a casino, but in another locale.

“A lot of our citizens, in fact, they have made up some signs and have, sort of, a tagline that they are for a casino, but not in that location,” Parnell-Rowe said.

A no vote by council closes the door in Hastings, but it would for the current proposal. There is a racetrack inside the Adams County Fairgrounds on the other side of town.

The Hastings city council expected the vote on February 28.
