Netherlands Reduces Illegal Online Gaming

Enforcement of rules against illegal online gaming has significantly reduced the number of black market sites in the Netherlands, according to de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) Chairman René Jansen.

The KSA is the authority in charge of online gaming in the Netherlands, which went live with its online market last fall. Jansen declared that of 158 illegal providers the KSA investigated, 142 took steps to prevent Dutch citizens from being able to use their sites.

In a speech, Jansen said, “This was exactly the intention of the new law: the legal offer had to push the illegal offer away. With legal providers, the player is assured of a fair game and attention to preventing gambling addiction.”
