Dutch regulators have announced a crackdown on online bets for the World Cup done through unlicensed operators.

The Netherlands currently recognizes one online sports betting operator, Toto, which is part of the Dutch national lottery.

The Netherlands regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) announced it will focus on underage gambling and unauthorized betting offered to Dutch residents.

In the past, Dutch authorities have pointed to a number of small international platforms that target Dutch gamblers, especially many based on the Caribbean island of Curaçao which have continued to take bets despite being fined more than €2 million by the KSA.

The regulator posted a special notification form on its web page to report suspected underage betting as part of this effort.

It has also released a public statement saying “The gaming authority acts against illegal gambling providers because there is no control (over) the fairness of the game, the detection of gambling addiction, and the participation of vulnerable groups such as minors,” the regulator said in a public statement. “Young people form a vulnerable group, and gambling providers must make every effort to prevent minors from participating.”
