The Nevada Gaming Control Board, following a hearing last week in Carson City, unanimously recommended approval of the acquisition by ATM and payment technology supplier Global Cash Access of Texas-based slot manufacturer Multimedia Games.
The recommendation goes to the Nevada Gaming Commission, which will issue a final ruling on the deal December 18.
“This transaction is well-structured and well-financed,” said Control Board member Terry Johnson at the hearing, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “It’s a good move for Nevada.”
Global Cash Access is buying Austin-based Multimedia as part of an overall effort by CEO Ram Chary to broaden the supplier’s range of products and services. Chary told Global Gaming Business that GCA, which holds licenses in twice as many jurisdictions as Multimedia, will immediately spread Multimedia products into new markets.
There will be cost savings in marketing efforts since we will no longer be two separate businesses,” Chary told the board. “We appreciate the thoughts and ideas and look forward to what the combined company will bring,” said Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett.
