New Belleville Casino a ‘Top Priority’

Great Canadian Gaming says building a new casino in Belleville, Ontario, is its top priority and would generate a much greater amount of revenue among regional bettors, while maintaining its base among Canadian gamblers. Meanwhile, Great Canadian allocated $13 million to renovate, but not expand, the Thousand Islands Casino in Gananoque.

Great Canadian Gaming says building a new gaming facility in Belleville is its “top priority” and holds the greatest promise for generating the most business.

Great Canadian paid $50 million to take control of the gaming operations at two casinos within the East Gaming Bundle created by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

Great Canadian officials say Belleville is the best location to maintain business among locals, while also positioning the gaming establishment within easier reach of people in the surrounding area.

Great Canadian wants to build the new casino on Bell Boulevard in Belleville, which it says is a “prime location.” It took control of the OLG’s two gaming operations in the area early last year and almost immediately began considering ways to improve business.

Others are concerned, though, that the focus on building a new casino in Belleville will come at the expense of a planned expansion of the Thousand Island Casino in Gananoque.

Great Canadian assured others that it will spend $13 million to help renovate the Thousand Island Casino, but that money only is intended for renovations and not expanding the casino.
