Two lawmakers who voted against the expansion of casino gaming in the state of New Hampshire lost their reelection bids this month. That could change the outcome in the next session. The last vote was a squeaker, with the House voting 173-172 to defeat a casino bill.

Two New Hampshire House members who voted against expanded casino gaming in the state have left office. That could mean that casino supporters will get their way in the next legislative session, according to the Manchester Union Leader.

In the spring, the New Hampshire House voted 173-172 to defeat casino gaming for the third time in two years, the narrowest of margins. And in light of a recent shakeup?state Reps. Bianca Garcia and Patrick Bick each lost their primary election bids this month?the tide could have turned decisively.

“I think the chances are getting better,” said state Rep. Joe Sweeney, who favors the expansion. “I’m optimistic about a victory.”

The community of Salem supports a potential resort casino. More than 80 percent of Salem voters said in a nonbinding referendum that they would support a casino at Rockingham Park, the Union Leader reported.
