September 28 will mark the official opening of Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy, North Carolina. General Manager Lumpy Lambert said construction is on schedule and once upgrades to the sewer and water systems are completed, the 0 million facility most likely will open next month.
Many games have been set on the casino floor, and at the 300-room hotel, drywall and fixtures are being put in place, Lambert said.
Three job fairs already have been held to fill the casino’s estimated 800 to 900 positions, Lambert said, noting about three-quarters of those jobs have been filled. Those new to the industry will be trained at a special facility in Murphy, and also assist at Harrah’s Cherokee on weekends.
