New Hotel Complex Approved in Jean

Some 25 miles south of Las Vegas, lies the tiny town of Jean. On October 7, Jean got a step closer to hosting a new hotel and retail project when Clark County commissioners approved plans.

The project, courtesy of the Herbst family, calls for a five story 208 room hotel with retail and restaurant space. But no gaming. The Herbst’s already run Terrible’s hotel-casino, which shut down because of Covid-19. Still, it’s literally the only game in town.

The site, covering almost 44 acres, is near Interstate 15 on the way to California.

When completed, the hotel will be a major boost to a town that houses government services and operations, including an airport, courthouse, fire station and post office. The only residents comprise the 240 female inmates of the Jean Conservation Camp, according the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Herbst’s run almost all of what passes for commerce in Jean.

They also operate a large travel center in Jean in 2018, with what is claimed to be world’s largest Chevron station, with 96 gas pumps and 50,000 square feet of retail space.
