New Jersey CRDA Funds More Atlantic City Beach Concerts

New Jersey’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has approved $49 million in contracts to have Live Nation promote and operate beach concerts in the resort as well as continue to bring concerts to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall venue. The beach concerts are seen as one strategy to diversify the city’s attractions.

The New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has approved Million to bring more beach concerts to Atlantic City and the resort’s Boardwalk Hall venue.

The deals are with Live Nation which already promotes beach and Boardwalk Hall concerts in the city and was the only bidder for the new contracts.

The authority approved a three-year, $6 million agreement to bring at least six beach concerts or events that attract 30,000 attendees or more to Atlantic City during the next three summers, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

Live Nation already successfully bid last year to run this summer’s beach concerts, which is now extended to 2017 and 2018.

The authority also approved providing an additional $3 million over three years for Live Nation to run events at Boardwalk Hall, according to the Press.

“Boardwalk Hall is a tremendous venue for world-class entertainment and over the past two years our four beach concerts have been a huge success and will continue to attract many thousands of visitors to our Boardwalk and beaches,” John Palmieri, the authority’s executive director, said in a press statement.

According to the Press, more than 100,000 people attended beach concerts by Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum in 2014, and at least another 80,000 came for Maroon 5 and Rascal Flatts in 2015.

Palmieri said the concerts help promote the city as a destination while bringing thousands of people to not only go to the concerts, but also spend money at the hotels, shops and restaurants.

“The economic impact goes into the millions of dollars,” he said.
