New Jersey Online Gambling Sites Looking for Wifi Fix

According to reports, several New Jersey based online gambling sites have traced geolocation problems back to weak wifi signals. Several sites are developing dongles—or attached signal boosters—to help solve the problem.

Geolocation problems have plagued New Jersey’s online gambling sites since the state went live with online gaming in November.

According to published reports, many of the sites have traced the problem to weak wifi signals in some areas and are looking to help boost signals for players.

The answer is a signal booster—called a dongle—which can be attached to players’ computers and devices. Several sites are looking to make the devices available to players free of charge.

Geolocation providers, usually independent companies, rely on data from wifi signals and other sources to determine the location of a player. Online players must be physically located in New Jersey to play. The sites hope boosting wifi signals will cut down on players being misidentified as not being in the state.

PartyPokerNJ reportedly has already sent boosters compatible with Windows XP or Windows 7 and 8 to a number of its players, and 888Poker has followed suit. WSOP.com is expected to also offer their players boosters in the next few weeks.
