New Jersey Regulator Approves $75 Million iGaming Site

The board of directors of the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), the agency charged with distributing the 1.25 percent gaming revenue tax for local projects, has approved a proposal to build a new $75 million building for use by online gaming operator Evolution Gaming.

The project will construct a four-story, 130,000-square-foot new building on an underused parking lot across from Angelo’s Fairmount Tavern. It will accommodate around 2,000 employees, including administrative staff and studio staff to run live-dealer online table games. The building also will accommodate the computer servers required to run the studio.

The studio will operate live roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker, and five game-show-style contests.

The building will allow for an expansion of Evolution Gaming’s local workforce, currently consisting of around 850 employees. The building is slated to open in 2026 with the workforce at around 2,000.

Loreta Acevedo, senior project developer for the CRDA, told the board of directors before the vote that the building would breathe life into a section of Atlantic City that currently is populated mainly by Angelo’s customers. She also said the building would be the first of its kind in the United States, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

Mayor Marty Small Sr., who is also a member of the CRDA board, commented that a visit to the current studios revealed much staffing from the local community. “There were a lot of local people working there,” Small told the Press. “A lot of familiar faces. More importantly, they’ve given back to the community.”
