A New Jersey State Senate committee approved a bill that hopes to attract big-name entertainers to Atlantic City by giving them a tax break when they perform in the resort.
The bill would give entertainers a break on state income tax if they play the resort at least four times in a calendar year. The entertainers would also not have to pay state tax on earnings for performances in other parts of the state.
Sponsors of the bill hopes that will encourage performers to play other venues such as in Newark and Camden, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
The bill is also designed to promote the type of “artist in residency” deals that are common in Las Vegas.
The bill specifies that it applies only to “A-list” entertainers, according to the Press. The New Jersey Secretary of State office would determine which entertainers qualify for the exemption.
