The new general manager of the Meadows Racetrack and Casino near Pittsburgh says the property, recently acquired from Cannery Casino Resorts by Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment, is about to be the scene of many improvements.
In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Meadows Vice President and General Manager Rodney Centers said improvements at the property will include new slot machines and table games, restaurant upgrades, possible new dining options, and a new player’s club program that awards the best customers an annual lease on a Mercedes-Benz.
Pinnacle, which bought Meadows for $440 million, is a subsidiary of Penn National Gaming. It operates the facility for Penn’s real-estate investment trust, Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc., which owns the land.
Pinnacle has already invested $2 million in improvements, but Centers told the Post-Gazette much more is to come, including new game styles comprising “state-of-the art, latest offerings from all the vendors.” He said the operator also is considering changes to the table game floor to make the games more profitable, with better food and beverage service, increased marketing and higher limits.
Centers also said he will institute offerings and services to bring in a younger demographic. “For me, it’s about service; it’s about that experience,” he told the newspaper. “Our millennials are tech-savvy and have little or no patience in a lot of examples and situations, and we have to make that offering exciting, meaningful and convenient for those folks who want to partake in those activities.”
On the food offerings, he said the casino is “looking at the possibilities of sports bars or different venues with more focused menus, and maybe some enhancements to the food court.”
“We’re going to make sure that our guests know that we appreciate that they chose the Meadows,” Centers said. “And that will drive us at the end of the day.”
