New Mexico Tribe to Open Casino in December

New Mexico’s Nambe Pueblo plans to open the Nambe Falls Casino in mid-December with 180 slot machines. The new casino will be a few miles south of Santa Fe.

Nambe Pueblo will open the Nambe Falls Casino in mid-December at an existing building along a highway near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The casino will have 180 slot machines.

Matt Doyle, chief executive officer of Development Services Group, which is working with the tribe, interviewed by the Santa Fe Reporter, said, “We don’t intend to make new money. We’re just carving out our niche and trying to get a piece of the market share that’s already out there.”

The 500-member tribe is trying to recover from a series of unfortunate events, including a wildfire that ravaged its watershed in 2011, followed by erosion and the death of trout that forced it to close the Nambé Falls Recreational Area in order to try to restore it.

The casino will be located a short distance from the Buffalo Thunder Casino and Resort. The tribe hopes to use some of the profits to create a college fund.
