The owners of an off-track betting facility in Vineland New Jersey are proposing to add another location just a few miles from the site of the closed Atlantic City Racetrack. ACRA Turf Club LLC would open the betting parlor inside Chickie's and Pete's restaurant (l.) in Egg Harbor Township.

An off-track betting facility has been proposed in New Jersey just a few miles from the site of the closed Atlantic City Racetrack.

ACRA Turf Club LLC, which owns an off-track facility in Vineland New Jersey, wants to open the betting parlor inside Chickie’s and Pete’s in Egg Harbor Township, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

The New Jersey Racing Commission will hold a public hearing on the facility March 21.

Township Mayor Sonny McCullough told the Press the project has been in the works for about four years.

“It’s something I’ve encouraged,” he said. “Chickie’s and Pete’s has been very successful, I think they’ll do quite well.”

State officials in 2001 authorized the opening of as many as 15 off-track wagering facilities in New Jersey. Only six have opened, the Press reported.
