Lawmakers from Mexico’s National Action Party and the Party of the Democratic Revolution have apparently come to an agreement on new gambling laws for the country.
The new law should create a legal framework both for online and live gambling with the introduction of new measures against money laundering.
According to reports, the law will bring the minimum age for gambling to 21 and will fight against money laundering by imposing some limitations to mini-casinos—small unauthorized casinos found throughout the country.
The new law also gives legal operators 10-year licenses, regulates online gambling and establishes a new Advisory Council composed of the secretaries of health, tourism, economics and government, as well as non-governmental organizations.
The law is expected to be introduced to the country’s legislature in the next few weeks.
