New Owners Upgrading Ontario’s Thousand Islands

Great Canadian Gaming recently invested $1 million the Thousand Islands Casino (l.) in Gananoque, Ontario, and more will follow, said Andy LaCroix, executive director of casino operators Shorelines Casino. The casino added 43 slots, two baccarat tables and 40 restaurant seats. A $13 million upgrade will start in 2018, La Croix said.

The Thousand Islands Casino in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada, recently completed a million renovation. Opened in 2000, the venue is operated by Shorelines Casino, which took over ownership from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation in January. Shorelines Executive Director Andy LaCroix said the million investment represented “quick fixes,” including adding 43 slots for a total of 530, adding two baccarat tables and adding 40 restaurant seats for a total of 140.

LaCroix said Great Canadian Gaming, owners of Shorelines Casino, will follow through on its pledge of $13 million in investment in the Thousand Islands property starting in 2018.

LaCroix said the owners realized there was a big demand for a larger restaurant, and a casino wall had to be knocked down to accommodate it. He noted the additional slots and tables will benefit Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, which split a percentage of gaming revenue.

Under its license with the OLG, the Thousand Islands Casino could accommodate up to 600 slots, LaCroix said, so there’s still room for more growth. He stated the casino has enjoyed a great year, and this past month could be the best July in the casino’s history. “It’s our first summer there, so we are pleased with the reaction and the support from the community and the tourists coming in” from Quebec, Ottawa and the United States, LaCroix said.
