New York Bill to Pair Horse Racing, Mobile Sports Betting

With mobile sports betting already signed, sealed and almost delivered in New York State, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. has filed a bill to add horse racing to the online sportsbooks.

“If someone on one of our apps can bet on the Nets, Knicks, Rangers, whatever team they want, and also horse racing at Saratoga, it will give the New York consumer a better product,” Addabbo said.

If passed, the law will allow bettors to place fixed-odds bets on horse races through online operators, who would partner with racing content providers. In addition to horse racing, Senate Bill S7536 permits operators to partner with select affiliates to bring self-service betting kiosks to their premises. The kiosks would be owned, operated and maintained by the sportsbooks. Customers could wager at the kiosks without registering a sports betting account.

“These changes expect to result in billions of dollars of tax revenue for the State of New York,” according to the bill.
