New York Bill Would Legalize Online Poker

A bill introduced in the New York Senate would legalize online poker, and put its regulation under the New York State Gaming Commission. It would authorize up to 10 online poker operators, with each license fee costing $10 million, Yogonet reported May 9.

Bill 9226, sponsored by Senator Joseph Addabbo, stipulates that each license would be good for 10 years and would tax profits at 15 percent.

The bill is assured of a fair hearing, since it was immediately referred to the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming, and Wagering, which Addabbo is the chairman of.

The Queens senator has sponsored two other iGaming bills this session, including one that would legalize mobile casino apps.
