Empire Resorts Inc. in Monticello, New York recently participated in Problem Gambling Awareness Month, led by the National Council on Problem Gambling, spotlighting problem gambling prevention, education, treatment and research. During orientation, and annually during PGAM, all Empire Resorts employees receive responsible gaming training and select staff members receive in-depth Responsible Gambling Ambassador Training, both through a program developed by the New York Council on Problem Gambling
Additionally, during PGAM, Empire Resorts employees wear red bracelets featuring 877-877-8-HOPENY, the number for the New York State HOPEline, available 24/7 to help individuals and families struggling with problem gambling, alcoholism and drug abuse. Also, employees participated in games designed to reinforce awareness of the company’s Compulsive and Problem Gambling Plan, which addresses responsible gaming, age restrictions and the state’s self-exclusion and exclusion lists.
Empire Resorts also worked with Sullivan County leaders to pass a resolution recognizing PGAM. Nanette Horner, Empire’s executive vice president, chief counsel and chief compliance officer and chair of the Responsible Gaming Committee, said, “As a responsible member of the gaming industry, we are committed to educating our employees and guests on responsible gaming. Responsible gaming is everyone’s responsibility. We are pleased to participate in PGAM to raise awareness about problem gambling and highlight the available resources for problem gamblers and their friends and family.”
NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte said, “Empire’s commitment to responsible gaming is evident through its membership in NCPG and as a sponsor of NCPG’s annual conferences. Nan is in her second term as a member of NCPG’s board of directors, sits on several NCPG committees and has been a speaker at numerous NCPG conferences, so I am confident that Empire not only talks the talk, but walks the walk.”
